Special Education Law & Advocacy
By law every child in the U.S. has the right to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). But unfortunately, for children with disabilities or other special needs, this legal right is not always honored properly—making things difficult for such students and their parents.
Whether your son or daughter needs accommodations for a disability, or they are facing undue disciplinary action, our experienced special-education lawyers can help ensure the system works for you, not against you.
We’ll help you understand your child’s rights, what services are available, and how to get your child the education he or she deserves. At Stenger, Roberts, Davis and Diamond (SRDD), we protect the rights of students throughout the entire Hudson valley area.

What is the role of a special-education attorney?
At SRDD, we represent students and their families—and can negotiate with schools and school systems accordingly—at CSE (Committee on Special Education) meetings, due process meetings, disciplinary hearings, manifestation hearings, and in the courts. We’ll advocate for your child to ensure that he or she receives an appropriate education in a healthy and safe environment.
We can also help you handle manifestation review determinations, which gauge whether disability and behavioral issues are related.
How will we work with you?
First we’ll meet with you and your child to discover and discuss what educational needs aren’t currently being met. We’ll then work collaboratively with you and the school system to develop an educational program that promises the best outcome for your child; this could include special-education services, extracurricular activities, sports, and other related services. In the case an agreement cannot be reached, we are equipped to pursue mediation, due process, and litigation to protect your child’s rights and obtain an appropriate program.
Qualifying a child for special education—and ensuring they receive the services they are entitled to—can be a daunting process for parents. SDG Law has experience in identifying problems, proposing solutions, and negotiating those solutions to protect children with special needs. Give us a call today.
